Robert L. Eichorn has 28 years of school-based experience as a nontraditional/alternative school teacher, program manager, and principal which has included leadership at the national level as the past president of the National Alternative Education Association (NAEA).  His core belief is the most socio-economically challenged, emotionally in need, and intellectually starved students deserve the best schools, teachers, and support services.  Eichorn’s current school, New Directions Alternative Education Center, has grown to be the largest nontraditional high school center in the Commonwealth of Virginia with an annual rolling enrollment of 850-1200 students and has earned national recognition for STEM Education, Dropout Prevention and Recovery, Digital Learning, and School Counseling.  Initiatives under his leadership include national and state alternative school reform, the development of national standards for alternative and nontraditional schools, and expanding STEAM opportunities for at-risk students with the creation of a K-12 nontraditional campus opening in 2018.  A native of Virginia, Mr. Eichorn holds multiple degrees in education from James Madison and George Mason Universities and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in educational neuroscience from George Washington University.
