Darius Dawkins currently serves as the Lead Male Facilitator of Gaffney, South Carolina’s
Higher Than I Mentoring Program (HTI). HTI utilizes resources within the community to allow
students to unlock their full potential in order to fulfil their academic endeavors. HTI addresses
that all students are potentially at risk and that one size does not fit all, students have different
learning curves that could hinder their overall success. HTI works to expose students to the tools
necessary to help overcome various barriers that are critical to their academic future.
Mr. Dawkins oversees the In-School Suspension program at Gaffney High School, previously
facilitating at the alternative satellite school, OLA Copeland. He also coaches football and track
at the high school, serving as a mentor and role model to student athletes. Obtaining his
Bachelor’s Degree from Newberry College, Mr. Dawkins is a First Generation College Student
as well as a Gaffney native, allowing him to successfully teach and develop at risk youth in the
community. He is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
He believes in taking a hands-on approach with at risk youth by getting out and physically
serving the community. As a Minister in Training, Mr. Dawkins enjoys participating as a guest
speaker with FCA at Gaffney High School, hosting Bible Studies at Limestone College and
participating in various outreaches within the community. His most recent mission trip was to
Memphis, Tennessee with Street Reach Ministries, visiting at risk communities in the effort to
reach the youth.
Mr. Dawkins is truly passionate about making a difference in the lives of the at-risk youth not
only in his community but any community he encounters.
