Heather Waterhouse

My name is Heather Barone Waterhouse. I graduated from the University of Akron in 2003 with
a BA in Social Work. After graduation, I spent 7 years working as a social worker for a local
agency and was assigned to many schools throughout Summit County, Ohio to help them
improve attendance, behavior and grades. I returned to the University of Akron and obtained
my Masters in School Counseling in 2009. During this time, I created and taught a few seminar
classes at the University of Akron on Children of Incarceration and Children, War and Terrorism.
From 2009-2017, I worked at 2 alternative charter schools in the area. One school specialized in
Asperger’s and ADHD where I worked as the School Counselor and then Director/Principal. The
other school was a Dropout Prevention Online School, where I worked as the School Counselor
and the District Test Coordinator.

Since the 2018-2019 school year I have been employed at Akron Alternative Academy as the
School Counselor. The majority of our students are credit deficient. We specialize in helping
students earn their high school diploma. We strive to provide a supportive, caring environment
that assists students to overcome personal barriers, earn a diploma and prepare them for life.
