Mary Carter-Berry

My name is Mary Carter-Berry. I graduated from Adams State College, in Alamosa, Colorado in 1996 with an education degree. I have worked as a Title 1 teacher, a classroom teacher, a district coach, and currently I work as the Lead Teacher at the Akron Alternative Academy for Akron Public Schools.

I taught in a behavior middle school for Akron Public Schools. I worked with at risk and behavior students. We won the Cybermission Stem National competition two years in a row.

Currently I work as the Lead Teacher for the Akron Alternative Academy. We specialize in helping credit deficient students earn a high school diploma. I am dedicated to working with at-risk students to assist in their success.

Sandy Owens

Sandy N. Owens is the Special Education High School Academics Resource Specialist for Fayette County Public Schools in Lexington, Kentucky. In this role, she supports administrators, teachers, students and families by providing the resources, training and support needed to maximize student achievement and teacher satisfaction. She serves all high schools and programs that serve high school students across the district. Sandy is passionate about effective academic and social/emotional strategies to give students the skills they need to be successful in the real world. Another passion is helping teachers realize the need for self-care, especially in today’s world. Helping teachers develop those skills, providing professional development on highly effective strategies and teacher coaching are what she enjoys most, believing that relationships are at the core of all things that lead to success.

Prior to working with FCPS, Ms. Owens worked with schools across the state of Kentucky with the University of Louisville’s Academic and Behavioral Response to Intervention (ABRI) grant to develop effective academic and behavioral RTI systems. Prior to that, she served the students in the classroom and through various school roles Madison County Public Schools. She worked as an ICU/CCU/Open Heart Recovery Registered Nurse for eleven years before moving to the public education system.

She holds a Master of Arts in Education – Instructional Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Arts in Education – Special Education from Eastern Kentucky University and a Bachelor of Science – Nursing from the University of Kentucky.

Aslean Hoskins

Aslean Hoskins graduated from the University of the Cumberlands with a BS in Communications. She completed a Master of Arts in Learning and Behavior Disorders at Georgetown College, a Master of Arts in School Improvement at Campbellsville University and is pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Organizational Development at the University of Louisville.

Aslean Hoskins began her career teaching secondary level social skill courses. While in the classroom, she served as the PASS (Positive Approach to Student Success) Behavior Specialist supporting at-risk students’ growth and achievement. Her dedication to supporting the social-emotional learning needs of students with disabilities continues to inspire Aslean’s work today in leading teachers in their implementation of behavior interventions and continuous improvement of programming.

Aslean Hoskins also served as a PBIS coach and school improvement specialist for secondary, program, and alternative schools before transitioning to the district’s department of special education as a behavior resource specialist.

Larry Jones

Larry Jones is a 1981 graduate of Marymount College in Salina, Kansas. He also attended Voorhees College in Denmark, South Carolina. After graduating from Marymount College, he moved to Denver, Colorado where he found employment at a chemical company. He moved back to Salina, Kansas where he was employed as a counselor for Heart of America Sports Camps. Later moved on to Racine, Wisconsin where he was employed with Big Brothers/Big Sisters as a Youth Worker & Coordinator.
He was an Assistant Basketball Coach at a Community College called Highland Community College located in Highland, Kansas. Later, moved on to be a Family Preservation Specialist for Heart of America Family Services in Kansas City, Kansas. Where he was a Family Advocate for families trying to keep custody of there kids. He would testify in their behalf to Family Court if parents were fit to gain full custody. He was able to set up programs that provided clothes, food, and furniture to needy families. He worked with a non-profit company that works with high-risk youth, and kids that were in the states’ custody, called Gillis Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1996, he matriculated to the Kansas City Public Schools. Larry’s role was a Parent / School / Liaison. He held many positions as Attendance Specialist, Attendance Analyst, Dropout/Attendance Specialist, and now currently Dropout Prevention Recovery Specialist.
He was born and raised in New York City (Harlem). Married Lisa Greene-Jones July 19, 1997. Has three kids Patrick, Priscilla, Janie, and four grand kids all boys. Currently residing in Raytown, Missouri.

Jennifer Glover

Rachel Baker

Ms. Baker earned a B.A. in Special Education and English and a master’s in Community and School Counseling at Eastern Kentucky University. She completed her Level 2 certification in Instructional Leadership at the University of Kentucky and director of Special Education at the University of Louisville. Baker recently completed her Instructional Leadership for School Superintendent and is finishing her Ed.D.at the University of Louisville.

Ms. Baker began her career teaching secondary level special education and English courses. While in the classroom, she was part of many initiatives including co-teaching and SEL curriculum development. She engaged in leadership opportunities early on while serving as an ESS coordinator, high school guidance counselor, 504 coordinator, and an SBDM member. She joined FCPS as a special education facilitator at Lafayette High School and currently serves as the Associate Director of Special Education and Program Director for an Opportunity School, The Stables. As an Associate Director of Special Education, Ms. Baker has supported all school levels, alternative programs, county agencies and oversees the Parent Resource Center. Ms. Baker has had the privilege to supervise and implement training and programs for a wide range of professionals and practitioners. Ms. Baker enjoys training and working in classrooms alongside staff, tackling challenges through team problem-solving, and building innovative approaches to working with students with disabilities. She is also committed to learning from schools and developing strategies to address poverty, academics, student engagement\, post-secondary transition and dropout prevention.

RosaLinda Aviles

Rosa Linda Aviles has worked for the Kansas City Public School District for over 20 years. She has an Early Childhood background as well as a legal background and has worked with children from Pre-Natal-5 years through the K.U. Medical Center, Project Eagle, as well as PRE-K through 12th grade.
Rosa Linda has always enjoyed working with youth and her experiences in Early Childhood education has helped her understand and work with high school students today. Rosa Linda feels the challenges start with some students not seeing the path to graduation. She says, “If I can assist that student in clearing some of those barriers and seeing a path towards graduation, then I feel I have accomplished something.”
It may take years before you can see the result, or to hear a student say, “If it was not for you pushing me…. I would not have made it.”

Richard Bishop

Mr. Rick Bishop, Data Analyst, is a proud undergraduate (BS in Education), and graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, May 1983. He is a former member of the Missouri Tigers Football team and has been in education related services for 40 years. He began his career in the classroom as an instructor of Jr. High Math and Science at a private school in Kansas City. He also served as athletic director this school and another 8 years at another private Kansas City area private school. Following this service, Mr. Bishop has joined the staff at Rockhurst High School, where he served as data services team member. Here Mr. Bishop became deeply involved with newly developing area of electronic student information systems in schools. His experience in the area leads him to join companies in the sales, distribution, training and implementation of student information systems throughout the United States and North America. In 2013, Mr. Bishop joined the Kansas City Public School District as a Student Information Product Specialist, coordinating the district’s system. This included duties in data review and presentations for business information analysis. Growing in the Business Intelligence areas, he joined forces with Major Stevie Brooks in the Attendance and Retention area, specifically, as the data analyst and strategic planning partner.
