Every Student Succeeds Act

To National Dropout Prevention Network Members and NDPC/N Friends,
The U.S. Department of Education is encouraging feedback on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and has provided a public comment period that extends through Monday, August 1, 2016.
The full text of the ESSA is available at https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-114s1177enr/pdf/BILLS-114s1177enr.pdf
. In addition, the full text of the ESEA, as amended by the ESSA, is available at http://legcounsel.house.gov/Comps/Elementary%20And%20Secondary%20Education%20Act%20Of%201965.pdf. We encourage you to read the act and submit comments.
As of this morning, there were 14,438 submitted public comments. You may read those at this link https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2016/05/31/2016-12451/elementary-and-secondary-education-act-of-1965-as-amended-by-the-every-student-succeeds and get tips on submitting your own formal comments. Or you may go directly to the comment portal at https://www.regulations.gov/comment?D=ED-2016-OESE-0032-0001 to submit a comment.
Below and attached is an excellent letter being submitted by our friends at the National Alternative Education Association. Your comment on ESSA could simply be to support NAEA’s letter and attach it to your comment. The National Dropout Prevention Center/Network appreciates the dedication of NAEA and all of its members in support of students struggling to graduate on time, those who need acceleration options, and those who need reentry and recovery services.

Sincerely,
Dr. Sandy Addis
