Join district teams from around Ohio and create a strategic dropout prevention plan with assistance from Clemson University and the National Dropout Prevention Center/Network in this two-day conference you won’t want to miss!

This two-day working event will guide school teams through a process that yields a practical graduation rate improvement plan with locally specific action steps that can be implemented in the coming school year. The DPI is designed for high school and middle school district teams of three to six staff members. During the two-day event, school teams will

  • learn research-based and proven strategies on dropout prevention planning;
  • meet last year’s cohort and hear testimonials of successful strategies to change the mindset of staff, students, and the community about the importance of graduation;
  • utilize local data and knowledge to design a customized plan alongside national field experts;
  • target specific needs and risk factors and identify current and potential efforts;
  • network with colleagues in similar school settings around the country; and
  • access the nation’s largest resource for information, research and expertise on dropout prevention.

It is recommended that participant teams consist of three to six staff members from a middle school and/or high school and include an administrator, a counselor, or other individual who works closely with at-risk students, and other selected staff members. In previous Institutes, some participant teams have included community leaders, central office personnel, or school board members and have reported this to be a very effective team composition.

Teams will be guided through the development of a realistic plan based on a template provided by the NDPC/N. NDPC/N has a 30 year history of providing quality resources and assistance to states, districts, and schools seeking to increase graduation rates.
